‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: A new shot of Paul Wesley’s Stefan

“The Vampire Diaries” is just a little under two months away from its launch on October 3, but The CW is keeping up its promotional efforts to the best of their ability.

Given his currently-ambitious slate for season 5, it does make sense for the latest behind-the-scenes photo to be of actor Paul Wesley. The man’s now joining Nina Dobrev as an actor with an opportunity to play two separate characters on the show, and the two could not be more different. For Stefan, you have a somewhat-sensitive vampire with a dark edge, but it only comes out when he starts to become addicted to human blood. Meanwhile, Silas is ancient, powerful, and also extremely conniving and manipulative. While Stefan is trapped underwater at the start of the season, you better believe that Silas is going to take advantage of the opportunity to wreck as much havoc as possible.

Eventually, though, you have to remember that Stefan is an extremely-important part of the show, and Julie Plec and Caroline Dries are not going to have any interest in keeping him away from viewers forever. The character will be back in action in due time, but you better hope that you are the patient type to get through the early period of suffering.

When Stefan does get out, we can’t imagine it will be that much better, given that he will have to spend a good chunk of his time watching the woman he loves in Elena get closer to his brother Damon, even after he has made some of his own feelings rather clear.

This photo of Wesley follows up some new images of Ian Somerhalder and Nina that have already hit the internet, and we imagine that we’ll have more to sink our teeth into very soon.
