‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: A romantic Ian Somerhalder – Nina Dobrev shot

Even though Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev may no longer be an item in real life, their characters on “The Vampire Diaries” are going to be continuing some sort of romance when the show continues airing on The CW starting on Thursday, October 3; not only that, but we have the photo evidence to prove it!

In a new post on his Twitter account, Joshua Butler shared the attached photo of the couple’s characters of Elena and Damon from the upcoming second episode of season 5 (which he is directing), and he also included the following message that suggests that there are some big things coming:

The clear thing here can be seen on Elena’s face: She is genuinely happy to be with Damon, and there is not any indecision as she kisses him. That is a big change from the past few years, where the love triangle has really steamrolled most of the rest of the story with questions about whether or not she would end up choosing to be with Stefan or Damon. Both were worthy choices to her in some respects, but we all knew that eventually, there would only be one person she would choose to be with.

But are Elena and Damon really going to be happy together forever? Surely, you know this show well enough to know that there are constantly twists and turns, and there are going to be some that happen pretty early on this season stay tuned.
