‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Julian Fellowes is clearly a good sport

Downton Abbey CastWhen you hear the name “Lord Fellowes,” it is pretty easy to form the mental image of a man sitting in front of a fireplace, sporting a monocle and telling his servants to draw him a bath. Basically, the name itself suggests that Fellowes is a modern-day Grantham.

Therefore, we’re happy to see Julian Fellowes show off his sense of humor from time to time, and remind us that he is willing to indulge some of the crazy / comical stories out there about “Downton Abbey.” We know that there’s virtually no way that Diddy ever actually appears on the show in the future. He basically piggybacked off of the show earlier this year to self-promote a Funny or Die video, which was about him playing a somewhat-funny take on the show’s first ever black character. (In reality, Gary Carr is going to be taking on this elusive role when the series airs this fall.)

Yet, in spite of the billions of things that Fellows could have said about Diddy, he instead chose to keep it light and “not rule out” the possibility that the rapper could sing “Coming Home” on his way to the Abbey. Check out his quote from the Life After Stroke Festival, per the Telegraph:

“I’d never says never, though I imagine he’d steal the scene, even if it was a small part.”

Yes, this is the problem: The entire scene would be about “oh, it’s Diddy. Isn’t that cute?” rather than the actual story of the scene. Don’t get us wrong, we like Diddy in some ways, given that he was pretty funny (really the only funny thing he’s done) in “Get Him to the Greek.” This just isn’t a comedy, and we think that Shirley MacLaine and Paul Giamatti already have the big-name guest star roles down this year.

Okay, so hopefully this concludes our obligatory story on Diddy getting a ton of mileage out of this video. If you want to change course and talk about Sophie McShera’s latest venture, check out the story over here.
