‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: Another new promo video, and a paper spoof
Are you ready for Sunday night’s new “Downton Abbey” season 3 episode? We have another promo for the installment that you can check out over here; but just in case this is not enough for you, we have a pair of new videos to go along with it. Once of them is a straight-up preview for the new season; meanwhile, the other is a new parody that was actually just sent over to us earlier today.
Let’s start off here with the preview, since it should give you a basic idea as to what is coming up with the extended episode Sunday night. We should also add in here that it is a rather interesting move for producers to make to actually make this episode longer than others, especially since there is the competition of the 2013 Grammy Awards. Then again, they are also probably doing this in order to avoid airing against the Academy Awards in two weeks, but what we have learned thus far is that this show is largely impenetrable. It even fared pretty well airing against the Super Bowl.
As for the video that we have to share now, it is known simply as the latest episode of “Downton Paper Pals,” which features paper cut-out versions of all of the characters. The opening introduction here is especially cute, and the writing here is pretty smart as it takes a very meta approach to both the series and British period drama as a whole. Think of this as one of the funnier “Downton Abbey” videos out there that you may not have heard of … until now (and there are many a great spoof out there).
If you want to read even more specifics as to what is coming up Sunday night, you can do so over at the link here.

This creates a fascinating situation for this ever exciting show moving into a new season. Dan Stevens was fabulous as Matthew, as was the writing of his fictitious character -a mega mega mega hit all around, and it is sure to bring him proper stardom as he moves on. However, period drama has characters coming on and off to fit the need for societal change and the deus ex machina for the change. Matthew did this superbly and will be missed, BUT the fourth series may deal with fewer societal changes and fewer needs for characters able to bring these about, so Matthew’s character might actually be written out of the future plotline of any such successful story around this time. The sticky wicket character to me is the wonderful Ed Speeler so superbly playing the flaky Jimmy Kent, whose fictitious character could be eye candy to any lady or gent thinking his physical appearance worth staring at, but death to any employer who depends on him to get a job done. There’s the true story of the famous retail chain who, at times of day, employs a host wearing no shirt to greet at the door, with retail sales actually higher when he’s not on duty, and lower when people who come to stare at him but not to buy flood the entrance lobby. Ed Speeler is fabulous and a treat to watch act Jimmy, BUT who, in the real world would want to hire a flaky employee who gets drunk on paid wages time, is employed as footman to maintain the front parlor of the Castle for show to guests, yet balks at polishing its ceremonial silver or plumping up its ceremonail, set aside seats cushions for imo=portant guests, and, when he can settle something without rocking the staff, chooses to publicly take a stand to rock the staff.
