‘Girls’ season 2 trailer: Anything can happen (video)
Just two days before Christmas on Sunday night, HBO decided to hand down a rather kind gift to friends of “Girls” everywhere: the latest trailer for season 2 of the critically-acclaimed show. So what is Hannah going to be getting into this time around? Well, thus far it looks to be everything from dinner parties to bathtubs.
Set to the music of Ellie Goulding’s “Anything Can Happen” (which we really cannot even think about anymore without the version of the song by Fifth Harmony on “The X Factor” getting stuck in our heads), this trailer should really be fairly reminiscent of the first one that was put out a little bit earlier in the year: rather than give away much of anything when it comes to actual plot points, we instead have various quips and funny moments from the episodes that are coming up without any context. For those who are looking to get into the show based on just a few punchlines, this is a pretty smart strategy; however, diehard fans are probably going to be a little bit let down by the fact that there is not really anything new here worth talking about.
For “Girls,” the biggest challenge moving forward is merely going to be trying to find a way to ensure that the quality of all of the episodes remains at a level that you would expect from a season 2. This is really the time that makes or breaks a show when it comes to it being a classic, or just a flash in the pan; this could still be a very funny show at the end of its run early next year, or it could be something that is even a step beyond that.
