‘Girls’ season 2: Lena Dunham’s face takes center stage in new poster

GirlsHBO has already closed off their 2012 original lineup courtesy of their “Boardwalk Empire” finale; but on Sunday, January 13, the network is going to be kicking off the new year with comedy courtesy of their critically-acclaimed series “Girls.” So will Lena Dunham and company be able to deliver the laughs? The trailer for season 2 is particularly strong, and that should give everyone fearing a sophomore slump a little bit of hope.

Unfortunately, we can’t really say that we get much at all when it comes to the latest promotional poster that HBO has released for the new season. Why? It just doesn’t bring anything new to the show or to Dunham’s character of Hannah that we have not seen on the show already … in particular when it comes to the phrase “almost getting it kind of together,” mostly because you can probably say this about Hannah for every season that this show is on the air.

One thing about this poster we do love, however, is Dunham’s one visible eye. Why in the world is she seemingly looking up? Is it supposed to be representative of there being hope for her in the future? It may be silly to over-analyze something as simple as a poster, but you have to think that these are the sort of questions that the actress / writer / director / master of everything else probably thought about over the course of production.

“Girls” will be followed up on Sundays with the return of Laura Dern’s “Enlightened,” and the two should hopefully be able to provide plenty of laughs for years to come.

What do you think about this poster? If you want to see Dunham and some other nominees for Breakout Star of 2012 here at the site, be sure to head over to the link here.
