When will Supernatural season 13 start filming first episodes?

When will Supernatural season 13 start filming

When will Supernatural season 13 start filming? Given that some other CW shows like The Flash and Riverdale already are, it’s fair to ask.

Well, the bad news is that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki aren’t going to be back to work on the show this week — but they will be soon! While we don’t like to give out too many specifics about filming days (it creates false hope that certain actors could be working when nothing is guaranteed), we can tell you that season 13 will begin production next week leading up to its premiere in October. Filming will continue from then until the spring, with a few little breaks along the way.

While executive producers Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer have kept most details about the new season tight-lipped, there are a couple of things that have become close to public knowledge over the summer.

1. Mark Sheppard is not returning – It doesn’t look like Crowley is going to appear on the show ever again. It’s certainly a shame, but it feels like most everything that was to be said about his exit already has at this point. Let’s just say that it’s sad to see him go and move forward.

2. Misha Collins is returning … in some form – Castiel is not done! However, will he be Castiel anymore? How will he be a part of the show? After his “death” in the season 12 finale, there are certainly questions aplenty out there. Supernatural probably has something creative planned, given that they do often come up with creative ways in which to bring people back. Therefore, we’ll give them a little bit of faith here.

Beyond that, the only thing confirmed is that glorious news about a Scooby-Doo crossover, which sounds crazy and ridiculous and also like a good time. We figure that if there wasn’t a good idea out there, odds are that the show wouldn’t be tackling it.

Don’t forget the spin-off

Finally, one more thing to keep in mind as filming gets closer to starting up is the status of the potential Kim Rhodes-led spin-off, which will have a backdoor pilot of sorts during the season. It’ll probably be a little later in the season given that this tends to be when backdoor pilots are, but it would be fun to see some of those characters surface early so that they are a frequent presence throughout the year. Also, it feels like this is a Supernatural spin-off idea that could actually work, and has a fan base behind it already. That’s one of the reasons why Bloodlines struggled as a concept.

All in all, it should be another fun year. We should learn even more in the way of specifics at San Diego Comic-Con a little bit later this month when the show’s cast turns up.
