Supernatural season 13 developing spin-off featuring Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Mills

Kim Rhodes

Sheriff Mills has long been one of the best Supernatural recurring characters, so why not try to use her in order to lead her own spin-off show?

According to Deadline, The CW is developing a new series entitled Wayward Sisters that would star Kim Rhodes as her familiar role, and would be planted within the upcoming thirteenth season for a launch in the 2018-19 TV season. While there are no other characters officially set to be a part of it yet, it feels as though Claire Novak and Alex Jones would be a perfect fit for it given their troubled pasts and the set of skills that they bring to the table now.

Supernatural showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer are behind the idea of the spin-off alongside Phil Sgriccia and Robert Berens, and this is not the first time that The CW attempted to find a new spin-off property based on the original show. Previously, they did their best with a show in Bloodlines that looked to take the show’s universe into more of an urban setting. That didn’t work too well creatively, and the backdoor pilot was not ordered to series.

The biggest advantage that you could say Wayward Sisters has at the moment is that it’s featuring some characters on the show who viewers are familiar with already, and as a result of that, there’s a little less of a concern when it comes to having to introduce characters you’ve never seen before. That was one of the big issues with Bloodlines, and here there is at least some familiarity when it comes to the people. That doesn’t mean, however, that we are poised to have a good show in the slightest. That will depend on the writing and the conceptualization of the series.

What we do know at the moment is rather simple: Wayward Sisters is a show with potential, and it’s nice to have a potential female voice to this franchise after it’s been so male-heavy for so many years.
