Supergirl season 3: Is Tyler Hoechlin hoping for Superman reprisal?

Hoechlin

Tomorrow night marks the season 2 finale for Supergirl, but for the purposes of this article, why not start to take a look at season 3? Tyler Hoechlin is a key figure in the finale as Superman, and he’s a character who could theoretically be brought back at any time for more story. It’s not like Supergirl will pull some crazy move and kill him off this early in the run. (The name Doosmday hasn’t been hinted at just yet; we are, however, going to be getting an appearance from General Zod Monday night.)

In speaking about his role in the season 2 finale and beyond, the Teen Wolf alum Hoechlin had the following message to say in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, discussing the extent of his upcoming appearance on the program:

“I spent quite a bit of time in Vancouver filming the finale so it’s fair to say it will be more than a quick hello and goodbye … [There’s nothing more planned for now.] I think even just jumping in doing the first two episodes, at that time it was just those two episodes. I was excited and happy about that opportunity. I was very open and eager to go back up if that opportunity came up and thankfully it did for the finale. I’m just taking it a day at a time at this point.”

The challenge that the Supergirl writers do need to come up with is finding a way to bridge the gap between creating big surprises and getting Superman on the show. They don’t want to feature him to such an extent that we as viewers start to become accustomed to having him around. However, at the same time they also don’t want to completely disappear to the extent where you start to speculate further as to whether or not the character has abandoned his cousin. If there is a problem and it seems as though he could be helpful to solve it, shouldn’t he be able stop by and lend a helping hand?

Following the events of the season 2 finale, Supergirl season 3 is going to be premiering come October most likely.
