The Flash season 3 episode 23 (finale) spoilers: Grant Gustin vs. himself

The Flash season 3 episode 23

On The Flash season 3 episode 23 next week (otherwise known as the season finale), the epic battle with Savitar will be at an all time high. This means, in turn, that Grant Gustin is going to have a chance to give a heck of a performance as he squares off in an epic showdown against effectively himself. Only one party will seemingly emerge, but the ramifications of what happens here should be epic.

The biggest question at hand going into the episode is precisely what happens on the other side of this? Is it possible that the entire journey is rendered obsolete? One of the prevailing theories is that the finale will eliminate this timeline and revert things back to before Barry created Flashpoint. If that happened, it would mean that Killer Frost is back to Caitlin Snow, and seemingly Julian Albert wouldn’t be around anymore. It’s hard to be thrilled about that unless it’s done in an absolutely killer way (pun intended), since you want this journey to matter — and you especially want these people to remember what happened here. Would Iris and Barry even be engaged in that instance? (Granted, she’d be better off than she is in this timeline no matter what.)

Without getting into any more theories, it feels right to press onward.

The Flash season 3 episode 23 synopsis – “With nothing left to lose, Barry (Grant Gustin) takes on Savitar in an epic conclusion to season three.”

Clearly, The CW won’t be giving you much scoop in advance here, and why would they since they want you to watch live. There are several mysteries still to tackle, and possible season 4 cliffhangers to address. This may be the first season, for example, where the season 4 Big Bad was revealed in advance. Remember the name Devoe being thrown around out there in the “Abra Kadabra” episode? Conventional wisdom points to this character (otherwise known as the Thinker) being the next main villain. He’s not a speedster, so he already fulfills one of the main things that The Flash wants to achieve next season. After all, not mixing things up enough is what they’ve come under fire the most about over the past year.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead.

Iris is dead. Will it stick? That’s what the show will be telling you next. We have some theories (and you can read about them here).
