Dancing with the Stars 24 review: Normani Kordei, Nick Viall, David Ross, Vegas!

Dancing

Tonight is Vegas Night on Dancing with the Stars 24, and with that, we anticipate a number of people having fun! This is Vegas, and we figure that the show wants to replicate that somewhat. (Granted, we figure that the crew tonight will be far more sober than anyone ever is in Vegas.

We started the episode off with yet another big, impressive group number that makes you believe that everyone is happy and completely getting along. Hi, Charo!

Anyhow, enough shade. The focus of this article is mostly the routines and the scores, so let’s get ready to dive into those. We’ll update this article throughout the night as we learn a little more about how certain people fared.

Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd – A great start to the show. So much fun! Nick was a lot more in control, and as a result of that delivered a performance that was far more effortless and devoid of excess pressure. That Erin Andrews post-dance interview, though, was ALL sorts of awkward with that “regal” nonsense. Score: 26.

Mr. T and Kym Herjavec – How can you NOT love Mr. T? The guy is incredibly endearing, and this was one of the sweetest, most heartfelt routines out there that reminded us just where this guy comes from. He’s showbiz royalty! Sure, he’s really not a good dancer, but we want him to stay as long as possible just because we adore watching him. Granted, it was pretty funny to see the judges praise him extensively and then give him a low score. Score: 24.

Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess – This Charleston proved to be a major challenge for Bonner and Sharna, given the fact that he couldn’t do many of the typical lifts and tricks. He has some talent, but he never really conformed personality-wise to the style of the dance. Score: 24.

Heather Morris and Alan Bersten – Maksim Chmerkovskiy was there to watch his partner perform while he recovered from injury. This was the Heather we expected to be dominant for most of the season. She reprised her role as Britney Spears (well technically, she wasn’t playing Britney — but you get the point), and she hit almost every step. The best score of the season! Score: 33.

Charo and Keo Motsepe – For this routine, Charo was … normal? Well, maybe “normal” is not the right word for it. She was still crazy and the interviews were still awkward, but we give Charo credit for coming out on the stage and focusing on the dance rather than the other nonsense that we’ve seen as of late. Score: 24.

Simone Biles and Sasha Farber – Hey, we got a second 9! This came courtesy of Julianne after a fun, celebratory performance with a lot of great content from start to finish. There was so much to like in here that we’re willing to completely ignore the lift … even if Carrie Ann Inaba won’t. Boo on that, by the way. Score: 32.

Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev – Given the obvious hero worship that Artem had going on this week for Ricky Martin, he may have spent the remainder of the episode in the fetal position. Luckily, this was Nancy’s true coming-out party as a serious contender. It was fun, and she’s so relatable and easy to want to root for. Score: 33.

David Ross and Lindsay Arnold – The fact that they did a Magic Mike performance was all sorts of strange. Yet, we also have to say that this was all sorts of fun! It was high-energy, exciting, and the technique was actually there to go along with some of the ridiculous choreography and the pink boxers that he had on. Score: 31.

Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko – Erika loves Vegas. Therefore, in theory this should be great! We do think that it’s a little bit odd, as much as we love Mr. T, that Erika went out and did a far better dance and only got two points higher than him. To be fair, Carrie Ann docked them for a lift … it strikes again! Score: 26.

Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy – The final performer of the night. This was energetic, fun, and somehow, she’s making these dances work despite having such a limited amount of time in order to rehearse! Carrie Ann was harsh on the lift, but overall this was an exceptional way to end the show. Score: 34.
