David Tennant goes silent over Doctor Who season 11 casting suggestions
Specifically, Tennant made it clear that he doesn’t want to say anything about a Peter Capaldi replacement out of fear that a “whisper” will blow things out of proportion with the media. He’s right on that, by the way. If he were to say that Lassie the Dog should be the next Doctor, the media would report it as “David Tennant CAMPAIGNS for Lassie to be Doctor.” They would make a really big production out of it and have utterly no problem doing so at all. This is just the sort of stunt that they would love to do just because it’s the British press!
For the record, David also makes it clear that he won’t be coming back in the part, not that we ever thought that he would given that he clearly has enough going on.
David also speaks in the interview about some of the security provisions that Broadchurch took in preparation of the third season to ensure that nothing manages to get out in advance of the show airing. What does make this interview so weird is that he is doing press for a show he cannot really promote or discuss in full. Isn’t it funny how shows want it both ways now, to do press but not say anything during said press?
New episodes of Doctor Who season 10 will start airing a little bit later this spring on BBC One (think April). You can see more of what Tennant has to say about incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall over at the link here. (The two worked together on Broadchurch.)
