‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Ming-Na Wen teases LMD May

May -The fourth season of “Agents of SHIELD” chose to end things off in December with a number of big twists — with one of the big ones being that Melinda May was harder the same on the outside world. The real May was captured by Aida, while there is an LMD version of the character roaming around now on the outside world — one that is getting closer to Coulson in the process.

There are so many interesting little dimensions to this new version of the character, mostly because it’s not as though she is completely different than May herself. There are so many similarities in terms of their personalities and their impulses; the differences may come in how they react to them. There may be a part of the real Melinda who has these feelings for Phil, but she doesn’t necessarily act on them. The LMD iteration could. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ming-Na Wen does a good job of describing what makes this particular story so fun, especially when it comes to showing a new side of her character:

“It was a real clever way for the writers to come up with a way to fulfill the Philinda fans’ fantasies, and also delve further into May, because she doesn’t open up about much. It’s an interesting way to look into her mind through Robo-May.”

As for how much of this relationship could cross over to the real May and Coulson, we’re excited to learn. For example, if the LMD May’s feelings are a little more out in the open regarding Coulson, does that make it easier for her in turn to recognize and accept these? Or, is she going to push away from this as a way to differentiate herself from this alter ego? We do see both of these as viable options.

What do you think Robo-May, as Wen calls her, will do to the Coulson – May dynamic in the long-term? Share in the comments!
