‘This Is Us’: NBC finding more ways to keep future episodes under wraps

This Is Us -We wouldn’t refer to “This Is Us” as the most secretive show on TV by a wide margin. After all, there are some other programs out there, whether it be “Scandal,” “Game of Thrones,” or recently “American Horror Story,” that often choose to tell you nothing about their stories in advance.

Yet, we do see NBC pushing the show more and more into the super-secretive direction as we get a little bit closer to the end of the season, especially when it comes to how they choose to release information in advance. Today, the network chose to release synopses for the vast majority of their shows for the week of Monday, January 16. However, in the process there was one that they managed to “forget” … and you’re looking at it with “This Is Us.” All they chose to reveal in advance was the name of the next episode in “The Big Day.”

What this means can ultimately be so many different things, given that there are plenty of people out there who refer to weddings in this way, but you could also make the same case for the first day of school, for graduation, or someone’s birthday, or another important milestone. We’re sure that this isn’t about something silly like Kevin going to the dentist; let’s just put it that way.

A specific reason why NBC did not want to give away too much information in this instance in advance may tie directly into some of what we saw in the winter finale with Toby. Saying anything at this point could give away whether or not he survived what appeared to be a heart attack; this is a cliffhanger for a reason, and the network wants to keep that secure. (Meanwhile, another show in “Arrow” basically gave away all of their secrets in a promo that was posted online yesterday.)
