‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: First look at midseason premiere, fittingly titled ‘Mr. Freeze’

Gotham -Clearly, someone behind the scenes realized that there was no beating around the bush when it comes to the season 2 midseason premiere of “Gotham.” The first episode back is titled “Mr. Freeze” with that in mind, given that this is where Nathan Darrow will make his first appearance as the show’s version of the character. He’s a guy who is notorious in the Batman universe for being a feared criminal, but there’s another layer to it. Victor Fries is not a psychopath invested in watching the world burn, to use a familiar phrase; he has a specific motivation for why he acts the way that he does, and that is based around his wife’s illness.

Fox this week unveiled the first synopsis for this episode (airing February 29), and it also makes it clear that there will be some rather harsh times ahead for Oswald Cobblepot in the wake of what happened to Theo Galavan:

“When the show returns, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) takes a hit for Galavan’s murder, but doesn’t let Gordon (Ben McKenzie) off easily. Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue) investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers.”

What is interesting is that the press release Fox sent out announcing this episode also revealed the already-reported news that Jada Pinkett Smith will be playing Fish Mooney, but declined to say whether or not it will be in this episode or somewhere down the road. We’re ultimately just going to have to wait and see on that.
