‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: Jada Pinkett Smith will return as Fish Mooney

For those of you who enjoyed seeing Fish Mooney as the Big Bad back on the first season of “Gotham,” the following news will be music to your ears: Jada Pinkett Smith will be returning as the character.

According to a report from TVLine, Smith will appear in multiple season 2 episodes, but the precise circumstances of her return are not clear. Given that we saw Fish last pushed to what seemed to be her death, it’s fair to ask the question of how this is possible. Is it a result of some experiments at Indian Hill? During the winter finale we saw a body in one of the test tubes that certainly seemed to have a familiar head of hair.

If Fish is revived, we imagine that she’s going to be angling for revenge from Oswald Cobblepot. If she’s been alive all along and the Indian Hill scene was a red herring … well, she’s probably still going to want him dead.

It’ll be interesting to see how this reprisal fits in to the show. We saw this as someone who was not the biggest Fish Mooney fan, but part of her problem was that she felt very much like a comic-book character in a world that was trying to be more realistic (which is somewhat ironic given that Fish wasn’t in the comics). Now that the “Gotham” universe has become a little more like the “Batman” source material, she may fit in better with everything that is happening around her.
