‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: How are Caroline, Alaric getting closer together?

For fans of “The Vampire Diaries,” there may be something a little unusual still about the story of Caroline Forbes. How can you can say anything else when you’ve got a character who is pregnant with Alaric and Jo’s mystery babies while in a relationship with Stefan? It’s one of the weirdest twists that the show has come up with in a series of super-weird events that have happened over the years.

In the flash-forward, we know that Caroline and Stefan are no longer together; heck, she doesn’t want anything to do with him! Meanwhile, she and Alaric are together, and we have to imagine may be helping to raise these twins.

Given that there is still so much time to go until we get around to the flash-forwards, there is no reason for the show to rush into the relationship between these characters. With that in mind, executive producer Caroline Dries tells TVLine that the two will “evolve as these babies bring them together. She’s not necessarily falling hard out of love with Stefan. It’s in no way a natural progression for a love story.”

As for where we’re going to find Stefan, we expect that both he and Damon are going to be experiencing their own versions of hell when the show returns, and they’ll have quite a challenge trying to figure out not only how to come back, but if there is even a scant chance for them to have a similar life to what they had once.
