‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: ‘The Following’ alum to play character tied to Enzo’s past

If you’ve been hoping to see some more Enzo news for “The Vampire Diaries,” this article is official where you want to be! The show is going to be looking to illuminate more of his backstory later this season, and they are doing so with someone who should know a thing or two about creepy places already.

As first reported by TVLine, “The Following” alum Mouzam Makkar will be making her debut in the 14th episode of this season as a researcher, someone who is striking, powerful, and can throw people off in the blink of an eye. Her name is Alex, and there’s no word as of yet if she is a supernatural being or just some ordinary human being with great ability. Here is what executive producer Caroline Dries tells the website:

“She has ties to Enzo’s backstory … As he’s trying to find his place in the world, she comes in and says, ‘Let me help you out with that.’ Is she good? Is she bad? What’s her bigger agenda? We’ll pull back her layers as the season goes on.”

Based on that quote, it is pretty easy to assume that there are some larger plans in store for this character, and it is therefore somebody who is not going to be going away in the reasonably-near future. We have something to look forward to! A consistent Enzo backstory should be able to inform us more on his decision-making, and potentially even how he ends up with Bonnie in the flash-forwards.
