‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ finale results: Was Bindi Irwin, Nick Carter, or Alek Skarlatos the winner?
Going into the “Dancing with the Stars” finale Tuesday night, there was a reasonable amount of doubt over who could end up emerging as the champion — which for us is always a good thing. It can be somewhat boring if you feel confident going into the finale about what the outcome is going to be. Nick Carter, Bindi Irwin, and Alek Skarlatos all had things going for them, even though they also each had obstacles that they had to overcome.
As per usual, the two-hour event was stuffed full of filler (much of it holiday-themed) as we waited around for the big reveal. In the end, let’s start with Alek and Lindsay Arnold in third place. No surprise here. They are very good and have grown a lot over the course of the show, but the reality still is that dance-wise, this was the right choice.
The Bindi vs. Nick showdown was one that we were expecting almost the entire season, but Bindi pulled it off! She had gained distance as the favorite the past few weeks, and combined great dance ability with an endearing personality and a story about overcoming obstacles. Both her and Nick are probably going to get a lot out of this platform, so it will be interesting to see how they use it over the weeks ahead.
Now, the waiting for season 22 officially begins. Let’s hope for some casting rumors in the meantime!

My prayers are for Alek. Six ,months ago he was in Afghanistan thinking, when I get out I can go to college on veterans benefits and get into law enforcement. Three months ago, he got his vacation interrupted with the ultimate citizen’s arrest. He and his friends, Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler, stopped a terrorist attack along with Chris Norman, Mark Moogalian, and 2-3 more French citizens. Then his college gets shot up. Then his best friend, Spencer, is almost killed. Then his one opportunity at doing something in a new media career and he gets blind sided by a casting director having him play opposite a porn star. (As though they wanted to shake his fan base of patriotic Americans from watching him.) Bindi has always been kept in front of a camera and can go back to the zoo. Nick has performed for 20 years. The Pena Vegas are fantastic performers with good careers. Even Paula Deen has book royalties. Alek is at a crossroads. He’s won some cash, thank God, but not enough for a lifetime. So what now for this fine young man with lots of choices to make? Wow!
