‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Expect much more on Alex, Jo

Justin Chambers and Camilla Luddington are going to be very busy over the next several months. Why? It looks like Shonda Rhimes is going to be making Alex and Jo a pivotal part of the upcoming 12th season of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The reasoning behind this is pretty smart. These two characters are now one of the most established couples on the series, and to go along with that, Rhimes feels like they have been under-served. As Rhimes tells TVLine, though, there are some specific reasons for that, and many of them stem from the last-minute change regarding Derek’s death on the show:

“We had a lot of stories we wanted to tell with them last season, and I promised the fans, ‘We’re going to tell all these Alex and Jo stories … And then we had to take a left turn because Patrick [Dempsey] was leaving. And now we want to tell a lot of those stories — except in a lighter way. So there’s a real focus on them this season … I feel like we didn’t get to know Jo the way we should, and Alex is sort of a grown man now; it’s time to watch that happen.”

Hopefully, there’s not going to be another situation coming up where one of the actors ends up leaving the show mid-season, and this can actually happen. We like these characters both together and separate. They both deserve happiness, and given everything that Alex has been through romantically, stability is definitely something that he deserves. We just hope that he can actually find it, given that stability is not something that comes in the direction of these characters often.
