‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Is there hope for April and Jackson?

Grey's AnatomyAt this point, we imagine that the majority of “Grey’s Anatomy” fans out there have learned that it is probably a good thing not to get too attached to any of their favorite characters. Bad things just have a tendency to happen to most of them more often than not, and while we want to have hope that couples will work it out, they often don’t. Just look at Cristina and Owen, and at the moment Callie and Arizona. It’s always possible that they find a way to work things out, but it is not going to be happening immediately.

So what about the future for Jackson and April? You know from the end of last season that after a personal tragedy, April decided to go away and do something for herself … which may not have been too great in turn for her marriage. They have to figure out where the future lies, and this is something that show creator Shonda Rhimes discusses in a new Entertainment Weekly story:

“They are in a difficult spot now … April’s really changed and she’s really done this thing that’s not necessarily the best thing for their marriage and Jackson’s not happy about it. Does that mean it’s over? And does she accept that it’s over? Because this is a lighter season, we found funny ways to tell what’s a very emotional story — more of a charming way to tell an emotional story, but it is still emotional and they are still figuring it out. April is fighting for things to be better. I honestly haven’t decided how it’s going to turn out. I love them together, so we’ll see.”

Maybe we are crazy for thinking so, but we’re going to hold out hope that these two can make this work. We feel like sooner or later you have to believe in one couple to make it through, and these two at least have the tools to work through their issues. Much of the debate will come in just whether or not it actually happens.
