‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Boss further nixes David Ramsey’s Diggle as Green Lantern
Just in case you really needed any sort of further verification that John Diggle is not going to be the Green Lantern on “Arrow” despite some recent rumors on the subject, what we have for you today should be the final nail in the coffin. Take a look at what executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly recently:
“He’s not going to be Green Lantern,” he says. “We have our own plans for Diggle that we’ve very excited about. It doesn’t benefit us or David Ramsey to let that rumor fester. What excites us is what we’re doing with Diggle this year and the fact that Diggle has become a character in the comics.”
The talk about David Ramsey’s character as this hero surfaced some time ago with a few subtle connections potentially between John Stewart (a popular figure within the Green Lantern comics) and Diggle, followed by Ramsey himself saying that he would be more than open to the show going in this direction if they chose to.
To us, we had a pretty firm sign that this was never going to happen back when DC was putting the kibosh on a variety of different characters on “Arrow”; if they were going to ban Harley Quinn and seemingly take away Deadshot, why in the world would they allow them to have a character that there is going to be a whole movie about in the future? “Green Lantern Corps” is one of many movies that is coming up over the next several years.
We’re really not altogether bummed by this news, mostly because Ramsey as Diggle is awesome as he is, and there is no real need to justify them by giving them a hugely-popular comic book character.
