‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: Drew Powell latest promotion to series regular

Gotham -It’s funny that we have already made a few jokes about “Gotham” having too many regular cast members, and what does the show decide to do about it? Well, let’s just say that they keep adding more and more to the mix.

According to Deadline, Drew Powell is the latest cast member from the Fox series to score a promotion to series regular. Powell plays the role of Butch Gilzean, who was the main henchman for Fish Mooney through the majority of season 1 (and ended up working for The Penguin). He will more than likely continue to serve in a similar capacity to Oswald Cobblepot after (sort of) showing some loyalty to him in the final episodes of the season. Given that he was in more than half of the season 1 episodes, this is a promotion that does make some sense, especially with Penguin rising in power… he is going to need someone he can trust. What is somewhat overwhelming now is looking at the entire main cast for the show going into next season: Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, Morena Baccarin, Drew Powell, Cory Michael Smith, the recently-arrived Michael Chiklis, Chris Chalk, Nicholas D’Agosto, David Mazouz, Sean Pertwee, and Camren Bicondova. This is without even referencing people like Cameron Monaghan (Jerome) or some of the other prominent officers at the GCPD.

How in the world is the show going to handle this many people? We imagine that some of these cast members are considered more fractional than anything else, and will only appear in a select number of episodes rather than all 22. Still, this is a ton of time to divide among such a large group of people. This cast is almost reaching “The Walking Dead” status, but without the killer ratings – that being said it’s not at a “Game of Thrones” level yet, and that’s when we would really start to worry that they’ve gone overboard. We do like the Butch character, so jokes aside we’re glad to see more of him.
