‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 21 preview: Nina Dobrev’s Elena and new circumstances

When Thursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” airs, we are going to see an Elena Gilbert who is in some many ways reminiscent of the one we saw during the earlier seasons of the show. After all, isn’t this what happens when you make the character into a human again?

In the sneak peek below, you can see Nina Dobrev’s character start to already adjust, but as we see, this is not just about Elena’s learning process. Caroline at the same time is having to get used to having a human friend again. This means trying to do what she can to be supportive, and also control her anxiety that her friend could get hurt and die at any given moment. She also wonders whether or not she pushed Elena into trying to become a human again with some of her past comments. Elena insists that she was not the impetus behind anything, so Caroline just does her best to take her at her word.

There are a few other little hints in here about the main story for Thursday’s episode, and that is the big wedding for Alaric and Jo! We’ve been waiting to see this ceremony for weeks, since this was in many ways what helped Elena to start to look towards her future a little bit more. Let’s just hope that this is actually one of those few TV weddings that really works out, and this is not one of those “Game of Thrones” weddings where things go to hell in a handbasket much faster than you can even realize.
