‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Steven Moffat sees long life ahead for series

Doctor Who -Is there still a long shelf life ahead for “Doctor Who“? Even though it has now been ten years since the show was revived by the BBC, everyone involved seems to be reasonably confident that there could still be some life in the show beyond just what is happening right now with Peter Capaldi.

While Steven Moffat was not the architect of the show the entire time, he has seemingly relished the opportunity to steer the ship the past few years, and plant his stamp on what is one of Britain’s most-successful imports. So is this something that he envisions getting a chance to do for a rather long time moving forward? If nothing else, it does seem like he is involved in the plan for shaping the future of the franchise. While his time on the show probably has an end date at some point in the years ahead, Moffat (who also works on “Sherlock”) told the Radio Times that he has already discussed in some capacity what the next half-decade for the show could be with the network and the distributor:

“I thought it would last 10 years. I didn’t think it would last 10 years with BBC Worldwide trying to get me in a room to talk about their plan for the next five years! It’s going to do a minimum of 15. I mean, it could do 26!

“Ten years on, our ratings are pretty much the same. Actually, internationally bigger. No show does that! You’re meant to go down! Doctor Who just stays. It’s extraordinary.”

The ninth season of the show will be premiering at some point later this year, and this marks the second for Capaldi in the lead role. Jenna Coleman has been around even longer, which makes us suggest that she could be the first one of the two to leave.
