‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Jenna Coleman lines up big-picture gig

Doctor Who -Jenna Coleman is going to be busy the next several months filming more “Doctor Who” season 9 scenes as companion Clara Oswald, but she has figured out a way to keep herself more than a little bit busy in some of her off months, as well.

According to a report coming in now from Deadline, Coleman has signed on alongside Sam Claflin and a pair of “Game of Thrones” actors in Emilia Clarke and Charles Dance in “Me Before You,” an adaptation of the Jojo Moyes novel of the same name. This is a pretty impressive cast, especially if you love familiar TV names taking on something completely different from what they are known for. There is not too much known about her role, but this story is about a woman (Clarke) who becomes a caretaker for a successful man who finds himself in a wheelchair and doubting his desire to live (Claflin). The two eventually start to forge a bond, and their lives are changed.

Like most other “Doctor Who” companions, we imagine that there is most likely a shelf life to the time in which Coleman will appear on the show. This marks an opportunity for us to see a little bit more of what sort of work she probably is going to want to do once her time on the show wraps up. Maybe that will be later this year, or in another season. We know that she almost left after this season, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment in regards to her future now.

The new “Doctor Who” season should premiere on the BBC this fall.
