NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: The curious case of Christina Aguilera’s steal

Christina -We wish that this coming week was the first live show for “The Voice” since we love it so much, but alas this is not the case. We have one more week of Knockout Rounds still to go, which means another week of NBC putting together two shows that are relatively cheap for them to make and don’t really provide the viewers with a whole lot to get excited about.

When it comes to promoting the show, there’s one thing that everyone knows is still looming: Christina Aguilera hasn’t used her steal yet. When will she do it? Here’s a hint: It will probably be used with the last performance that we see before we make it to the next round. This may sound incredibly cynical of us to say, but it does not make it any less true. The show has a serious editing problem when it comes to using the steals and it’s becoming a little predictable now that we’ve seen a few seasons. While it’s a nice twist, it is completely ruined by the saved artist always performing last. It’s basically Carson Daly and the producers running by and popping your balloon before it can take you to Tension Cloud Nine.

Our proposed change for future rounds is this: Just have the steals happen randomly instead of trying to force fans of the show to sit through the whole episode to get to the steal. If there is no steal available at the end of the night, that’s fine since we are already invested in watching the episode. Just go with it. and let’s things fall naturally! This actually allows for a much heavier dose of anxiety this way, since you truly know that only one person is getting through, and one person is going home before Blake Shelton can start doing that hand-pointing thing.

Also, the contestants. Where are they in this promo? We only see them for a few seconds; but hey, look! The coaches are famous! Sarcasm aside, we really wish the show focused less on the coaches sometimes and more on the talent since these are the people we are ultimately rooting for. No one needs to root for Adam Levine as he rolls around in his piles of money.
