‘American Idol XIV’ spoilers: Florida Georgia Line to mentor, perform

American Idol -Sooner or later, we knew that in-house “American Idol XIV” mentor Scott Borchetta would be bringing some names from the Big Machine label onto the show, and we’re therefore not too surprised at all to hear the latest news: Florida Georgia Line is going to both be mentoring and performing on the April 8 show.

Not only this, but we can also tell you (per Mjsbigblog) that theme for this week will be songs from the Billboard Hot 100. Only eight singers will be around for the mentoring session and only seven will actually perform; as reported yesterday, the April 1 episode is going to feature Kelly Clarkson heavily as a mentor and performer.

The funny thing here is that both Borchetta and Florida Georgia Line’s specialty at the moment lies within the world of country music, and there are not any real country artists in the competition with Maddie Walker’s elimination. We feel like Riley Bria had potential, but he just was a victim of a bad week of voting. Otherwise, this just has not been a season where there have been a ton of knockout country performers.

With all of this being said, there are obviously still many universals tools and keys to success that are universal across all genres, and given how successful this duo is, they should be able to pass along some good advice to the hopefuls.

While we don’t love everything on this season (those chairs the contestants sit in are very low-rent and hokey), for the most part we’re enjoying the way that mentors are being implemented. Even for the most part we’re getting some good song choices. This is setting up entertainment-wise to be the best season of the show since maybe season 11, but unfortunately, it is not translating into big ratings.
