Best of 2014 results: Nathan Fillion – ‘Castle’ shock wins Most Surprising Moment

Surprising -Obviously, 2014 was a tremendous year in TV, but who knew that it was also going to be such a big year in surprising television There were a multitude of shockers across the board this year, and many of them we would say are ones that altered the course of their respective shows.

While there were many big surprises across cable, including character deaths on “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones,” voters this year ultimately decided to go in a different route in the CarterMatt Awards voting for Most Surprising Moment: Choosing Richard Castle’s kidnapping as the victor!

This moment comes from the “Castle” season 6 finale, and it sparked quite possibly the biggest Twitter reaction we’ve ever seen among the show’s fans, many of whom were expecting to see Nathan Fillion’s character marry Kate Beckett after great anticipation. Many were too shocked for words, many were thrilled, and many were upset to the point where they may have broken their computer typing too hard.

Sometimes, the point of a shocker is to get a big reaction, and sometimes it is to set the stage for larger things. You can argue that “Castle” did both by having Rick be abducted, but we’d be insane to try and judge the overall intent of the move. What we know is that it created a whole new dynamic for the show, and we hope that the story this fall helped to turn the opinions around of those who did not like the twist when it happened. Castle and Beckett did eventually get married, and while we still don’t know what happened over those months to Rick, there may be some answers by the end of this season.

Statistically, Rick’s capture won with just over 40% of the vote, while the death of Sweets on “Bones” was relatively close behind in second place with 34%.
