Best of 2014 results: Bryan Fuller of NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ wins Favorite Showrunner

Favorite Showrunner is a favorite category of ours for the CarterMatt Awards, mostly because we’re showrunner fanatics in many ways. No one works harder to ensure a series’ success, and it goes far beyond just a writers room or any other individual component. They know their shows inside and out, and they are prepared to take on either praise or criticism with the end product.

The nominees we chose for this category not only work hard to make quality shows, but they also go above and beyond that in some way, whether it is by interacting with fans, showing that extra passion, or being completely unafraid in their storytelling. There were thousands of votes that came in just for this category, but (you know the quote) there can only be one winner!

Who is it this year? We’re looking at none other than “Hannibal” executive producer Bryan Fuller! There was a close competition at first in this category, with it looking like Fuller, Warren Leight of “Law & Order: SVU,” and “Sons of Anarchy’s” own Kurt Sutter could finish in a very tight race. However, Fuller pulled ahead by a decent margin a few days after voting began, and eventually built up a pretty decisive victory with more than 50% of the vote. Obviously, the vote is yet another testament to Fannibals, who have really come through this year. Days ago, we announced Hugh Dancy as the winner for the Drama Actor prize.

We’re also personally thrilled for Fuller, given that with this show and “Pushing Daisies,” he is responsible for two of our favorites from the past decade. Anytime he gets a little more recognition is something for us to celebrate.
