‘The Good Wife’ season 6, episode 5 preview: Carrie Preston on Elsbeth’s return

Carrie Preston -One of the great things about “The Good Wife” is that you’ve got such an enormous pool of guest stars that you can really tap into anytime that you have a story that appeals to any of them.

For Sunday night, that means getting to see more of Carrie Preston as the quirky, but incredibly cunning and successful, Elsbeth. Anytime Alicia Florrick faces off against her, it is a battle, especially when you don’t quite know whether or not she is using some of her eccentricities to disarm her opponents, or if it is just a natural part of her personality. For the “True Blood” alum, this is one of the reasons why this character is such a delight to play. Speaking on this subject to TVLine, Preston had the following to say:

“What’s great is that we don’t know [Elsbeth’s intent]. That’s a mystery and it makes her exciting to watch … We’re not sure if she’s manipulating people or if she’s actually that way. As an actor, I play the truth of the moment no matter what I’m given, so I’m definitely not playing her as a manipulative Machiavellian kind of character.”

Will you get another chance to see Preston beyond this episode? It sure sounds like it. The actress plans on coming back basically anytime that the show wants her, and there is room in her schedule to do so. We’re still down for an Elsbeth spin-off someday, at least if there was ever a desire to make that happen. She has an interesting enough character for it.
