‘The Good Wife’ season 6, episode 1 review: Did Alicia run for State’s Attorney?
On the season 6 premiere of “The Good Wife,” one question was a constant from start to finish: Would Alicia Florrick run for State’s Attorney?
There were a number of different factors that all weighed into this decision, starting with the notion that Alicia was not even sure that she wanted this job in the first place. It takes a lot of work to be a State’s Attorney, and she also is not entirely clear that she wants to get into politics in the first place.
Then, there was also another challenge in trying to learn if Peter wanted her to run. At first, he seemed more likely to transform magically into Mr. Big than having anything to do with the State’s Attorney position. However, that changed over time thanks to some shrewd moved by Eli and, interestingly enough, his own daughter. Using poll data and samplings, they manages to deliver a two-for-one: Not only did they insure that he signed off on the idea, but that they also avoided scandal courtesy of a certain intern’s fashion choice.
Just in case Alicia was not stressed enough, this episode also featured numerous other conflicts. For one, she has to prepare for the potential arrival of Diane and Kalinda to Florrick / Argos, but then there is the issue that for most of the episode, her partner was sitting behind bars in desperate need of bail money. This was eventually provided in shrewd fashion, but Cary’s far from being out of the woods. As a matter of fact, he’s still in prison until the source of the money can be proven. In other words, ruh-roh.
Still, there is no real world yet on what will happen with Alicia and the State’s Attorney’s office, though the show does seem to be moving in that direction. What you should be mostly thrilled with is that “The Good Wife” is still a very strong series, and we’re already excited about the plot this time. Grade: A-.
