‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 3: The latest murder suspect report

Game of Thrones -Let’s start this “Game of Thrones” piece off here first and foremost with a disclaimer: There are spoilers ahead, but only for those who have watched last week’s episode. There is no further discussion about things that happen in the George R.R. Martin books.

What we’re here to discuss is a status report for the possible Joffrey suspects out there right now. We’ve rounded up people who have either something to gain from the King being dead, or at least people with a personal vendetta. There are a few (Bronn, Brienne) who could have something to gain that are not included, mostly because we see no way that they are capable of such a thing.

Tyrion – Obviously a suspect in the way that he was accused of being the guilty party, but thanks to his expression upon seeing Joffrey dead, he does not appear to be guilty. Tyrion’s much too smart to do this in a place where he would be easily caught, right?

Oberyn – It’s a little curious that the moment the Red Viper comes into town, something happens to King Joffrey. Plus, we know that Oberyn is looking for revenge.

Olenna – She’s shrewd enough to figure out how to do something like this, and in the preview below, she suggests to Margaery that circumstances have actually improved for the two of them with Joffrey dead.

Loras – Probably a stretch, but he surely wouldn’t want to see his sister married to a mosnter.

Sansa – Is she crafty enough to pull something like this off? Probably not, but she does very much hate Joffrey.

Shae – It is this current leadership core that drew her and Tyrion apart, and she had to know that her love wasn’t speaking for himself when he said what he did.

Varys – Also a very crafty guy, and not someone who is particularly easy to pin down to any alliance. We only wish that his frenemy Littlefinger was around to be a suspect in his own right.

The Fool – Why the heck did this guy appear to Sansa earlier this season? There has to be a reason.

Someone for Stannis / Melisandre – While they were not present, maybe the Red Woman sent someone to perform the deed. It’s a smart move, since neither her nor Stannis would be considered the immediate suspect.
