‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 6 preview: Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern shocked
What has Robert and Cora so stunned in this “Downton Abbey” photo? This is what us, putting on our best Benedict Cumberbatch – “Sherlock” coat, is going to try and figure out.
First of all, it’s clear to us that Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern (even though you can only see part of her behind Lily James’ Lady Rose) are clearly the most stunned of the group, with this being brought on by whatever they are looking at. For us, the most obvious explanation to what could be happening here is that we are looking at an opportunity to see Jack Ross (Gary Carr) enter the Abbey with his jazz band, and given the status of most racial politics at the time in which “Downton Abbey” is set, could cause all sorts of other chaos. Rose looks at least a little bit more defensive here, almost like she is trying to console Robert through whatever he is seeing.
But we shouldn’t be foolish here and assume that this could only just be about Jack. Edith is going through hard times right now courtesy of Michael Gregson, we have the still-tragic story of Anna and Bates, and Lady Mary has herself some suitors as she tries to figure out whether or not she wants to move forward with her life. There are tough decisions ahead for her to make.
As for our silly answer, maybe these characters are looking at the arrival of Jonathan Rhys Meyers dressed as Dracula, in what is a perfect little bit of cross-promotion just in time for the Halloween holiday.
Do you have any particularly strong opinion about this one way or another, and do you think that they are witnessing the arrival of Jack Ross, a legion of soldiers, or a “Walking Dead”-style zombie massacre taking over the Abbey? Share below, and take a look at our other two preview pieces below.
1. A look at what is going to be coming up for a pair of fan favorites in Bates (Brendan Coyle) and Anna (Joanne Froggatt).
2. A sneak peek that is going to be focusing specifically on Lady Rose trying to recruit someone very specific for Robert’s party.
