‘The Bridge’ season 2 finally confirmed; renewal speculation can end

What's next -There’s not a lot of drama sometimes in a renewal when it has already been more or well known that the show was probably going to be coming back, and that is the situation that “The Bridge” found itself in this summer. Given that we had already heard the producers talking about future storylines, they had likely already been given some sort of indication that we would be seeing more of the show.

In a statement today, FX’s President of Original Programming Eric Schrier confirmed the news that the show will have 13 more episodes to air next summer. Here is what he had to say:

“We’ve been blown away by the compelling performances of Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger and the writing of Meredith Stiehm, Elwood Reid and their team, and are thrilled to be able to continue this journey for another season. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Rich Ross, Carolyn Bernstein and everyone at Shine America.”

The only real surprise here is that “The Bridge” is not a huge ratings warrior for FX, and is probably going to have an even harder time finding an audience the next two weeks; not only is the Big Bad for the year seemingly in handcuffs, but there is going to be a huge amount of competition courtesy of some of the major networks.

But, this goes yet again to show that FX is one of the premier destinations for creators to be allowed to create. They are currently doing a far better job than another popular cable network thus far in 2013 (hint: Their name starts with an A and ends with a C) when it comes to giving us original and risky properties. FX has already renewed another great series in “The Americans,” and the hope here is that they will each be able to find an audience through people watching the show back in the months ahead.
