‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Title for 50th anniversary; Matt Smith films Christmas special
Let’s start off this “Doctor Who” season 8 update with what is the breaking news for many out there: The show has officially started to film the Christmas special, which will be the last one for Matt Smith as the title character in The Doctor. Both Smith and Jenna Coleman have been spotted out filming some scenes, but for the sake of secrecy, we’re not going to post any here.
Just know that there will be plenty of what you love included in this episode, as Steven Moffat is very well aware that Smith is really the first Doctor for many fans out there. There is a certain emotional attachment to him because of that, and the last thing that they want to do is disappoint anyone who has been following along and cheering for this character over the years.
To go along with this, we also have the news that the episode of the upcoming 50th Anniversary special airing on November 23 now has a title: “The Day of the Doctor.” Considering that both Smith and David Tennant are going to have major roles in the special, the title seems appropriate. It is also very similar to “The Name of the Doctor,” which by our personal belief is one of the finest episodes of the show that has ever been created. The stunning reveal of John Hurt at the end gets us every time.
After the Christmas Special wraps, filming for season 8 will take place months later, featuring Peter Capaldi in the leading role. These episodes will not air on BBC until next year, so let’s just hope that you are the patient type. Smith recently offered some high praise to the new Doctor, which leads us to suggest that we have nothing to worry about when it comes to the show maintaining its level of “awesome.”
