2013 MTV VMAs: Lady Gaga confirmed to perform first single from ‘ARTPOP’
Well, is it now official that the MTV Video Music Awards is now must-watch television? Lady Gaga has already had an opportunity to steal the show (and also draw the ire of animal rights groups) for showing up on the red carpet wearing a meat dress, and now she’s going to have an opportunity to dominate the headlines again. On this occasion, though, it could be for strictly musical reasons.
The last time that Gaga had herself a major single to launch was at the Grammys, when she gave the first-ever TV performance of “Born This Way.” That song definitely got plenty of play on the radio, but future singles off of the album received only mixed results. (“Judas” in particular never really took off to be much of anything.)
Now, it’s been confirmed that Gaga will perform her first song from the upcoming “ARTPOP” for the first time at the VMAs on August 25, mere days after the single is released. Rumors floating around right now suggest that this song will be entitled “Applause,” but for now, rumors are really that. Given Gaga’s flair for the dramatic, there are plenty of guesses left now as to what she is really going to bringing to the table. We don’t expect anything with meat again, and that’s just about the only guess that we have.
The VMAs this year are going to be in a new location in Brooklyn, which should in turn add an extra bit of flair to the broadcast. It should be a fun night, and hats off to the network for actually choosing a weekend here where there is really not that much else going on.
