House of the Dragon season 3 episode 5 spoilers: Ormund’s big goal
As we brace ourselves to see House of the Dragon season 3 episode 5 arrive on HBO in the coming days, one thing feels abundantly clear: There are perhaps more players on the board than ever before. We have Rhaenyra serving as Queen but at the same time, also Aegon and Aemond out there to some degree. They will have their own desires and goals and at the same time, you now have Ormund Hightower.
Following the past couple of episodes, it is refreshingly clear now just what he is up to, as well. If he has his way, he is going to get Daeron on the throne, a move that feels more Hightower than anything else that can be done.

So why is Ormund willing to go so far at the moment? Speaking per TVLine, here is how James Norton describes it:
“The fact that he’s willing to talk about Daeron’s Targaryen blood being ‘tainted,’ the savagery that exists within the Targaryens … That conviction — and if that cause which he believes in is such a virtuous cause, such an honorable cause, to put a Hightower on the Iron Thone — if he doesn’t achieve that, then I think that’s his North Star. He so fervently believes in that cause… But that’s dangerous because he will fight, tooth and nail, for that, against all the odds … So yeah, sets us up for a fraught old time.”
We do think that Ormund is the sort of guy who is going to stop at nothing to try and make this happen, but he does still have a problem: Who else is going to be on his side? His options are a little limited in that way.
