IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 renewal: February 2026 update
Between now and the end of the month, is there a chance we will learn more about an IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 over at HBO?
If you have not seen some of the recent highlights regarding the future of the hit horror drama, it only feels right to start off here with a note that the series is almost certainly coming back. Not only was the first season a huge success, but it ended with what was a clear tease that this was just Chapter One of a larger story. The plan appears to be to go further into the past for season 2 and then 3, while Pennywise continues to exist as a non-linear entity. With that, it could work in the 1930’s or even the 1900’s to try and stop events that happen in season 1 or even the feature films.

So why hasn’t there been an official renewal yet? By all accounts, it seems to just be ensuring that the right story is in place first, and that could easily happen by the end of the month. There is no great concern over this on our end. Instead, the larger question is simply when the next edition of the series is going to air. If we are lucky, it feels like fall 2027 is the most likely window. Yes, that is an incredibly long stretch of time away, but we also do not think that HBO will rush this. They basically have their lineup in place for the rest of this year, and that is without even considering how long it takes to make a show like IT: Welcome to Derry, let alone turning the episodes around in post-production. With Pennywise in particular, there are certainly a number of visual effects required.
In the end, we just want the next season to be both as captivating and horrifying as what we had with season 1 late last year. Is that really too much to ask?
