‘Switched at Birth’ season 2 spoilers: Joey Lauren Adams lands role as…

Switched at BirthFor at least two episodes of its upcoming season, “Switched at Birth” is going to bet setting the dial back a decade when it comes to one of their upcoming guest stars. In a post on Twitter, creator Lizzy Weiss disclosed that Joey Lauren Adams (known in the 1990s for “Chasing Amy,” but more recently known for “The United States of Tara” or “Party Down”) is set to appear as Nikki’s mom on the ABC Family drama. (The episode count was first reported by TVLine.)

The addition of Adams is really just another feather in the cap of a show that has done quite a bit right, in between the realistic take on such issues as being deaf, and giving all characters a voice that is uniquely their own. Plus, it’s an opportunity here for the actress to do something a little bit different, and appeal to more of a family audience after taking some time to work within the premium cable realm.

“Switched at Birth” continues to air new episodes Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and if you haven’t heard much yet about Monday’s episode, here’s a quick tease via a network synopsis:

“Angelo becomes a member of the country club. Meanwhile, Regina begins a new job; Kathryn’s position as a senator’s wife leads her to have an awkward encounter; Daphne is unsure about Jace’s feelings; and Bay uncovers new info about Ty and Mary Beth.”
