‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8, episode 22 review: Ralph Macchio and Barney’s party
We have waited for quite a long time to see the season 8 episode for “How I Met Your Mother” themed all around Barney Stinson’s bachelor party, mostly because we knew that it was going to be a certain adjective that he loves to use from time to time.
What we had Monday night was a blast of an episode, but that being said, who thought it would go quite like this? Basically, Barney was intentionally set up in order to have the worst bachelor party ever, as Marshall, Ted, Robin, and Lily with some of the worst circumstances possible. Robin was complaining about having dinner with his mom, the guys invited Ralph Macchio (apparently a nemesis of Barney), brought his ex-fiancee Quinn to pretend to strip for him, and then also implemented some reminders about his past history with a certain Chinese card game.
Basically, this entire situation ended up hitting red alert level when the Chinese mafia pretended to cut off Marshall’s hand, and the truth was finally unveiled to him. We loved just about everything about this episode, from the absolutely epic “Karate Kid”-themed ending to the mere fact that Robin effectively got Barney back for running a completely elaborate play on her just to get her to accept a marriage proposal. It was all delightfully full-circle, and one of the best overall half-hours of TV that the show has produced in quite a long time. Barney and Robin are closer than ever, and now the only thing remaining to wait for is the big wedding.
