Saturday Night Live cold open: Marjorie Taylor Greene, GameStop stock
Well, the NBC show opted to go with something a little bit experimental: What Still Works? Hosted by Kate McKinnon, this was a talk show reminding us that there are a lot of problems still going on in the country. Hence, bringing on board Cecily Strong to play Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. You’ve probably heard about some of the controversial politician’s beliefs, but have you ever heard her voice? Cecily’s impression was fairly close to accurate.
After looking at Congresswoman Greene, McKinnon then transitioned over to GameStop and the latest controversy when it comes to the stock market. This led to the show bringing in Pete Davidson’s character, who is somehow now the majority shareholder in the company after Reddit buying up the stock over the past several weeks.
Finally, Kate examined whether or not social media still works by bringing out Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg. The SNL version of the Facebook founder is consistently crazy and weird, and this was yet another example of this. The same goes for Kenan Thompson as OJ Simpson, who was there to reinforce that the vaccine rollout really isn’t working.
There were some funny moments in this cold open, but we gotta say that we expected something a little bit more from the first cold open in over a month.
