Stumptown episode 2 preview: What’s next for Cobie Smulders, cast?
Because this is a show that is semi-procedural in nature, there are going to be elements of it that are different from what you’re seeing elsewhere from more serialized fare. While getting you invested in the story matters, above all else it’s about liking the characters and the setting enough to want to keep watching. What makes the show fascinating is that it’s set within a different sort of place than what you often see on TV — and, beyond that, it also features a different sort of cast of characters. Dex is a compelling lead, but she’s also a far-from-perfect person who is going to speak her mind and skirt the rules when it benefits her. That’s a part of what comes with the territory of her job — freedom, at least so long as she doesn’t put too much of a target on herself.
Stumptown episode 2 will feature another new case, with this one being about a wealthy man who is looking for a woman — on paper, a simple job, right? Well, the deeper you get into this, and the more it’s going to be clear that this will be anything but the sort.
Below, CarterMatt has the official Stumptown episode 2 synopsis with some more information on what is coming:
Dex is hired by a wealthy man to search for a woman whom he recently met, but she quickly learns that the task is not as simple as it seems. Meanwhile, Dex and Grey’s history unfolds.
The Dex/Grey storyline within this episode is going to be a big part of the balancing act of this show — trying to maintain character histories and deeper arcs with some of the stuff that you’re getting a chance to see week to week. You don’t want one to overwhelm the other — there needs to be substantial time given the a case, but also enough to make it feel like there’s a reason to watch week to week. There can be such a thing as a show being too case-of-the-week for its own good.
