Wynonna Earp season 4 happening, will film in early 2020
Today, Vulture confirmed in a new report that the comic adaptation will be back for another batch of episodes, with pre-production starting this fall and filming kicking off early next year. The idea is for the fourth season to premiere on Syfy coming the summer of next year, roughly around the time that the show should’ve been able to start up in 2019.
The road to a season 4 has not been easy — as a matter of fact, it’s been very tumultuous. Financial issues over at IDW Entertainment, the series’ production company, have kept the future of Wynonna Earp in limbo for months. It technically was renewed through season 5 some time ago, but without the ability for the studio to deliver on those episodes, it almost didn’t matter. Fans have kept the series alive through an incredible #FightForWynonna movement and there remained an active convention circuit throughout the past several months.
In a statement, Syfy had the following to say about the series coming back:
“Syfy has never wavered in its support of Wynonna Earp, a unique and important series with some of the most passionate fans anywhere … To our Earper friends: Thank you for your patience and faith as we worked with our partners to ensure that Wynonna can get back to where it belongs … on Syfy.”
Will all of the cast return?
There were some question marks here, mostly because the contracts of four primary cast members lapsed due to the hiatus between seasons. Yet, the aforementioned site confirmed that Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp) are all going to be coming back. Rozon may have another role on the upcoming Vagrant Queen, but it won’t interfere with his ability to come back as Doc.
In the end, a hearty congratulations to all Earpers! You fought hard for this and you earned this renewal a good year ago, right when season 3 was just beginning. Nobody should’ve had to deal with the messy situation of the past several months, but it is a relief to see that it is all coming to an end.
