Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 3 video: Alicia, Luciana, & the Wild West?

Fear the Walking Dead

There is certainly a sense of fun that we’re feeling right now in regards to Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 3, and a lot of it is due to the setting. Are we actually heading out now into Western territory? It kind of feels like it, based on the latest promo. Sure, there are cars and modern technology, but the buildings, the mud, and the setting bring us back to showdowns at a certain corral and a shootout may be coming around just about any corner.

Based on what we’ve got in this promo, we’re entering this episode honing in on some specific character pairings. Take, for example, getting to see Alicia working alongside Luciana — who, somehow, is still alive. Luciana’s survival at the moment may be one of the biggest The Walking Dead franchise miracles, though you’ve probably gotta also include in there Daniel Salazar also still being alive. Who lives and who dies within these shows is always such a complicated science.

While Alicia and Luciana work/battle for survival together, this episode is also going to spend a little bit of time with John Dorie and June as they run into a surprise visitor — someone who may or may not be Dwight. The promo doesn’t give it away, but it’s already been out there that we’re going to be seeing Austin Amelio on this show this season. There have even been some official photos released! It’s not really a secret and if you’ve got a character this good, it only makes sense to show them off and to do so sooner rather than later. After all, the longer you spend getting to that point, inevitably the more disappointed people are going to end up being. It’s a point of excitement, as could be the war that breaks out between those trying to help and those trying to hurt. It’s a fundamental difference that could end up defining this season.

Two episodes in and we’re genuinely enjoying what we’re seeing. Fear the Walking Dead needs to just focus on a lot of the people that they have and don’t go overboard working to emphasize people that they don’t. One of the biggest mistakes that we’ve seen with shows within this world (especially the main one) is that you develop and build it out so much that it’s almost unwieldy. For some reason, a show about the zombie apocalypse has a larger human population than any other one out there.
