Call the Midwife season 8 finale spoilers (PBS): Valerie’s testimony

Call the Midwife season 8

Next week, the Call the Midwife season 8 finale will air on PBS, and this is one where the emotional cup could very well runneth over for some of our beloved faces at Nonnatus House. Family struggles are going to turn into family spirals. Dr. Turner and Shelagh are going to find themselves amidst a rollercoaster when it comes to what’s happening with May, while Valerie Dyer is going to face a direct continuation of what is going on with her grandmother — she’s going to ultimately be left in one of the most trying situations of her entire life where she may have to testify against her. She’s seen what is going on there at her abortion clinic — if you can even call it that. What she’s really doing is running a dangerous establishment that can hurt just about any woman that comes in through those doors.

Beyond Valerie and the Turners’ storylines, though, there are some other important ones worth watching out for. Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Call the Midwife season 8 finale synopsis with some more news as to what’s coming:

Share in the Turners’ emotions over May’s impending adoption. Sister Hilda digs deep to give a terminally ill patient her final wish. Valerie and Trixie must testify in a grueling court case. Fred and Reggie keep secrets from each other.

By the end of the finale, be prepared for a number of trademark Call the Midwife tear-jerkers — yet, at the same time also a number of moments where you actually smile and have a little bit of hope for the future of these characters. We know that there’s going to be a Call the Midwife season 9 — heck, there are two more seasons confirmed even beyond that. The real question that you’ve got to wonder is how we’re going to effectively move from point A to point B. Will some of these midwives find happiness, true love, suffering, or anything in between? With a show like this, there really is that potential where just about anything can happen … and anything often does.

For those of you who are wanting to smile, the one thing that we will say is keep your eyes peeled for what’s happening with Reggie and Fred. The storyline will start one way but, by the end of it, it’s going to end in a manner that is totally different. You’ll smile, and we really do think that Reggie has been a rather lovely addition to the overall story in general.
