Outlander season 4 episode 9 discussion: Roger’s next step

Outlander season 4

As we approach Outlander season 4 episode 9 airing this weekend on Starz, there is absolutely quite a bit to anticipate. Some of it could be positive — such as the opportunity to see Brianna meet Jamie for the first time! However, there are some other parts of the story that could prove difficult or devastating.

In a new video over at TVLine, you can get a sense as to what one of those parts of the story will be — and it’s courtesy of Roger. For non-readers, there is a prevailing sentiment of ‘what now?” when it comes to this character. He went through a lot to go back to the past and secure passage to North Carolina. Basically, he’s had to endure Stephen Bonnet — he doesn’t know the full extent of his monstrosity, but he certainly has been able to ascertain that this is not a good person and he’s capable of really bad things.

Unfortunately, there is more to endure now potentially. Roger temporarily won Brianna over in Wilmington, only to see it crumble soon after the fact when she realized that he knew about the obituary and didn’t tell her that something has transpired with her mother at Fraser’s Ridge. That’s caused the two to split apart and Roger may be reeling. He allowed Brianna to effectively tell him to go, but we’re not sure that he will. Roger does still have great feelings for her and beyond that, he’s stubborn. We’ve certainly seen plenty of proof of that over time!

With this in mind, our feeling at the moment is that Outlander will feature the character trying to stick around North Carolina, but that’s where the aforementioned TVLine video comes back into play. On Sunday’s episode Roger will try to do his part to convince Bonnet that he can stay back in Wilmington rather than continue the journey up north … but Bonnet’s not going to be so keen to hear that. As a matter of fact, there are some pretty-harsh consequences to men who don’t finish their voyage.

Basically, be prepared on Sunday for Roger to be pulled in two different directions. He will likely still be influenced by his feelings for Brianna. Yet, more than likely he will also have a major fear of death that could be pushing him in some other ways. These two things are going to be huge influencing factors in what could be one of the most-pivotal stories of the season for him.
