Madam Secretary 100th episode to air December 23; first details
As for the specific story that the CBS series is going to be taking on in this episode, it definitely does feel like there could be a little bit of controversy there given that the title here is “Family Separation” — this is something that has generated a ton of headlines all over the country the past several months, and Madam Secretary is not even the first show to tackle it in some capacity. (It has already been done on Law & Order: SVU.) This episode is also going to be told in two parts, with the second part of it coming on Sunday, January 6. Take a look at the attached synopsis below for more details:
Elizabeth goes head to head with a U.S. governor over the state’s new policy of separating unauthorized immigrants from their children. Also, she and Henry plan to renew their wedding vows, in a special two-part episode of MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Dec. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 6 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. This marks the 100th milestone episode of the series, written by executive producers Barbara Hall and David Grae.
We understand that this is a hot-button issue, but it is also a fairly important one. This could be why Madam Secretary is, at least in part, drifting into current events in a way that is even more substantial than usual. While it may seem like family separations are a thing of the past we certainly know that the after-effects of them are something that is still being very much felt.
Beyond just the events of these two particular episodes, you do also have a look to a certain extent towards the big picture here. Elizabeth likely knows at this particular point that she is looking to craft policy and show beliefs that will be important for a potential Presidential campaign down the line. She is at a point now where she has to look at and consider just about everything.
