Where is Sara Ramirez on Madam Secretary? Kat Sandoval’s status
When it comes to trying to answer this question, we’re not going to speak in terms of why the character and Ramirez are gone. Instead, what we want to do is simply make one thing clear: Kat’s not leaving the show for good. Ramirez will be back at some point later this season, hopefully sooner rather than later. It is certainly still worth noting that the former Grey’s Anatomy star is listed still as a part of the regular cast on CBS’ press releases for the series.
Rest assured, there are also some especially-meaty series coming up in the future. According to a report from TVLine from earlier this fall, we are going to see Kat’s father in the future! He is going to be a part of an upcoming two-part episode where we will get a chance to learn that the two don’t necessarily have the best relationship in the future. Kat’s father lives in Arizona and we hope that this will lead to an opportunity for some more backstory — it’s something that we certainly need from this character! She hasn’t been on the series as long as some other people and with that, there’s certainly so much more we have to learn.
Of course, beyond just that we want to see Kat more involved in policy and a number of other key decisions around the White House. She is exceptional at her job for a reason and with that in mind, we absolutely do want to see a lot of it! There are always going to be ways to include her, and we think that as we get closer to Elizabeth’s potential Presidential campaign, she’s going to need more people around her than ever to tackle a wide array of different responsibilities.
Alas, we’re going to be waiting for a good while still to see more Madam Secretary in general after tonight — the next new episode will be coming on the second weekend in December! Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to see more of Kat then! No matter when she turns back up, she will absolutely be welcome — as will be whatever story she brings with her along the way.
Rest assured, if anything does ever change on the status of Kat or any other Madam Secretary series regular / character, we’ll of course have an update. For now, though, wipe all worries that Kat is leaving in the immediate future from your mind and just enjoy the show!
