NCIS: Los Angeles’ Eric Christian Olsen, Bull’s Michael Weatherly team up
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Weatherly and Olsen (who are friends and also have production deals over at the network) are joining forces in order to bring to the table First Lady, a drama series that is currently in development at the network. The series is written and executive-produced by Jessica Grasl (Designated Survivor) and revolves around (go figure) the First Lady of the United States. Take a look at the potential logline for the series below:
“First Lady centers around the beloved First Lady of the United States, who, determined to reclaim her life, does the unthinkable — she divorces her husband while he’s still in office and uses her prominence to become an advocate for truth and justice by revitalizing her career as an investigative journalist.”
It’s hard to question the hook of the series — doing anything about the First Lady is going to get attention, especially the idea of her divorcing her husband while he is President. That’s the sort of thing that causes a political firestorm more or less the moment that it happens. As for whether or not she can become a successful investigative, that’s obviously the question at the heart of this series but also simultaneously a question we wonder ourselves, mostly due to the fact that it’s going to be hard for her to really do anything undercover when all eyes are on her at just about every single second. Her former position carries with it a lot of weight, and that’s something that cannot be ignored in the journalism world. How can she tell stories when she is the biggest story herself? That is clearly something that this series will have to do its best in order to tackle.
What does this mean for Bull and NCIS: Los Angeles?
Absolutely nothing. Weatherly and Olsen are not poised to appear in this project as actors, so they can continue their work while also doing development on the side. Eric already has two other projects in the works at CBS as a producer, while Weatherly is also working on a series with his former NCIS co-star Cote de Pablo entitled MIA.
